The Technical Institute, a vocational training centre, was established in 1950, by the British Authorities at that time in the South of Yemen to prepare essentially its needs of qualified workers and technicians.
This centre continued its role till 1974, after the independence, where its was upgraded to a ‘Technical Institute”, to prepare Assistant Engineers. The Law No.(22) of establishing University of Aden issued in 1975,
directed to include the Institute as one of its establishments. This decision along with the UNESCO project of developing technical institute create favourite condition to establish “College of Technology”
in 1978 offering the “Special Degree” in three specializations: initially in mechanical and electrical engineering, and one year later in civil engineering.
The curriculum was initially designed for two years so the first batch graduated in 1980 and 1981. Later, an integrated 5-years integrated curriculum was established and approved.
Since then, the graduated engineers worked in various public and private sectors and institutions, and they have proved excellent capabilities and qualifications. And hence, they occupy leading engineering and administrative posts inside and outside the country.
