Civil Engineering Department has been one of the departments of the Faculty of Engineering since it was established in 1978.It has evolved naturally from the building section of the erstwhile Higher Technical Institute. The first batch of Special Degree holders graduated from this department in 1981.The special Degree continued to be granted to graduates till 1991 where the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) replaced it after the course of study had been revised.
The Civil Engineering Department graduates specialized engineers who will be able to take responsibilities of work and participate in serving their society through preparation of engineering design, technical studies and offering consultancy. The department also trains specialized engineering personnel who are able to follow all new developments and techniques in their field of specialization.
The curriculum of civil engineering department includes a number of specialized courses as well as basic science courses relevant to civil engineering covered in ten semesters for five years. Added to this are the experiments, tests, seminars, and summer training and graduation projects.
